Wednesday is the deadline if you have not yet filed to recertify your pistol permit issued before January 15, 2013.
If your permit was issued on or after January 15, 2013 -- you must recertify it five years after the date the permit was issued. This is a new provision under New York’s SAFE Act.
The law says every pistol permit holder must recertify every five years.
State Police sent notification letters to registered pistol owners in Upstate New York last January.
If you do not recertify -- your pistol permit will be revoked.
When you go online to recertify, you’ll want your driver’s license and pistol permit with you so you can verify information.
To recertify your pistol you can visit firearms.troopers.ny.gov. There are two options, you can either recertify there or if you already recertified, you can also visit that website to see the status of your recertification.
