MAYBROOK, N.Y. -- State police responded to a crash on Neelytown Road just off of Route 208, outside the village of Maybrook early Wednesday morning.

"Our investigation indicates that a 2014 Hino was traveling westbound on Neelytown Road, and it appears that vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a 2015 freight liner tractor trailer," said New York State Police Captain Richard Mazzone. "Upon arrival, our troopers and emergency medical personnel rendered aid to the two operators of the vehicles, who were ultimately pronounced deceased."

The crash happened near an exit off I-84, and the area is known for having high truck traffic because of a busy truck stop nearby. Route 208 was closed in both directions until the accident was cleared.

"We don't have any indication as to what caused that vehicle to cross that double yellow line. Our investigation is continuing. We're going to be inspecting the vehicles and conducting a full investigation with regard to the cause of the accident,” Mazzone said.

Police said weather was not a contributing factor, but troopers urge people to make sure their vehicles are ready for the winter to prevent future accidents.

"This time of year, we always tell people [that] to make sure they can drive in inclement weather conditions, they should have good tires on their vehicles and make sure their vehicle is properly maintained," Mazzone said.

State police said if you witnessed the accident or have any information, you should contact them at 845-344-5300.
