TROY, N.Y. -- Troy honored local service members in a new way.

Mayor Patrick Madden was joined by military families and members of the Troy Military Banner Committee to celebrate the City's new commemorative banners honoring Troy Veterans.

The project was funded through private donations and support from the city of Troy Neighborhood Bicentennial Grant Program.

Organizers say there is a great support for the project.

"Troy is a big little town," said Joanne Romano McCarthy, Troy Military Banner Committee member. "Sooner or later everybody knows everybody and when you walk along here and see these banners they are going to be familiar names and it is just a very prideful thing. "

The banners will be on display until early next month.
