HOMER, N.Y. -- Homer police, along with numerous other authorities are now involved in the investigation into Friday's fire in Homer.
Police confirmed that one person died in the fire. His body was removed from the scene Friday night. However, his name and age won't be released until family has been notified.
Chief Robert Pitman also gave some insight into how the fire may have started, announcing an arrest.
"We have made an arrest in this incident," Pitman said. "We have arrested Brian Bermudez. He's been charged with manslaughter in the second degree and the unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree."
Bermudez is being held on $500,000 bail. Police are still working at the scene on South Main Street to uncover any evidence. They brought in the state police emergency response team to handle any possible contamination due to the methamphetamines found at the site.
15 people in all were displaced, and two businesses destroyed in the fire.
Demolition is set to begin today.
