SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Union College students hit the streets to clean up their city Saturday.

Five hundred students turned out to help beautify Schenectady by cleaning up more than 20 local parks, monuments, and public areas.

"We've been doing a day of service for close to 20 years. It was named after john calvin toll several years ago who was a member of the class of 1799, Union's first graduating class. So we do this every year and partner with community organizations and get out into the community, raking, clean up, serving food at food pantry," said Janet Sweeney, Union College Associate Director Community Outreach.

Saturday's efforts were coordinated by Union's Kenney Community Center.
