ALBANY, N.Y. -- A fundraiser was held Friday to help Jamar Gittens, who along with his mother and sister spent part of his life homeless, pay for college.
Gittens graduated this year from Green Tech High School as valedictorian and was accepted into Messiah College, but unable to secure loans to cover tuition, Reigning Life Family Church held a fundraising dinner to raise money.
"I see him going to the moon and back," said Lisa Prince, who organized the fundraiser. "He wants to become a mechanical engineer and I believe that he will definitely obtain that goal."
Gittens wants to build wells in third world countries once he finishes his degree.
