LOS ANGELES — The cost of housing is a constant challenge for some families across California.
In the City of Compton, Davis Middle School’s "Tech Team" students set to create and design a sustainable housing solution using STEM — science, technology and mathematics — to help bring those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles indoors.
The design features an aquifer to capture rainwater, solar panels to offset energy costs and recycled shipping containers to repurpose as housing.
The students also included a rehabilitation center, an area for childcare and more. The project was a finalist in the City of Stem Innovation Challenge.
