NATIONWIDE — In a statement released on his Twitter account Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks announced that he and his wife Rita Wilson had been diagnosed with coronavirus. The couple had been in Australia.

"Hello folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went," said Hanks in his Twitter statement. "Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

"We'll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!" continued the statement.

The prolific Hanks won Oscars for his leading roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.

Wilson, his wife of 32 years, is also an actress who is best known for roles in Sleepless in Seattle, and Runaway Bride.
