With the school year set to start in a couple of weeks, Ballston Spa Central School District is hosting one of its reopening meetings for parents tonight. Now, though, there will be new questions to answer, since an employee has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The positive test has spurred the district’s contact tracing protocol, which will help identify anyone who was in close contact or proximity to this person, who was on campus this week for training. That’s according to a letter Superintendent Ken Slentz shared yesterday, upon being notified by the Saratoga County Department of Health.
Right now, the district is working to figure out who was in contact with or in proximity to the employee. Once the contact tracing is complete, the district will provide a list of people who were potentially infected to the health department. Employees will be contacted if quarantine measures are implemented based on the degree of exposure.
All this comes as the district prepares to start the school year with remote learning until at least October. Ballston Spa is one of the only schools in the area doing this.
The positive case forced district officials to cancel a community forum Wednesday regarding its reopening plan. Another reopening presentation is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The state is requiring each school district to host three to five of these meetings before the weekend. In his letter, Slentz encouraged parents to attend.
It’s unclear whether the district’s plans will be altered as a result of this positive test.
