Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced that the travel advisory for the county put in place Saturday morning has been lifted, as heavy snowfall hit areas of Western New York.

The county executive said the initial decision to issue the advisory was made after discussions with the county department of public works, and the county department of homeland security and emergency services.

“Driving conditions are rapidly deteriorating in central and southern Erie County due to 2-3” rate of snowfall per hour and 35MPH wings, dropping visibility to zero at times,” Poloncarz said on Twitter Saturday morning.

According to NWS Buffalo, impacted roadway Saturday morning included:

  • Interstate 90 from Dunkirk to Batavia
  • Interstate 190 in Buffalo
  • Route 219 north of Boston
  • Route 400
  • Interstate 81 from Watertown to the Thousand Islands

A lake-effect snow warning is in effect for northern Erie, Wyoming, and Genesee Counties through 7 p.m. tonight and 5 a.m. Sunday for southern Erie, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus Counties.
