The technology behind a green screen is pretty cool! Quite literally, meteorologists on a daily basis stand in front of a green wall. Sometimes it’s painted green, other times there is a green sheet hanging. It doesn’t matter how high tech or low tech the screen is, as long as it is green!

Cameras set up are programmed to take anything that is green (the wall in this case) and turn it into weather graphics. That doesn’t just apply to the wall always! Meteorologists have to be very careful with what they choose to wear. If any green is on an outfit, that too will turn into weather graphic! A lot of times you will see meteorologists play jokes on Halloween, as they can turn themselves invisible and play pranks!

The way meteorologists can see what they are pointing to since nothing is really behind them, is by looking at monitors or TV screens on both the left and right sides of them. There is also a monitor just above the camera in front making viewing much easier! It is hard to do at first, but after a lot of practice it becomes second nature!
