The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced Monday the return of the above-ground Metro Rail.

The announcement comes after a period of closures and means passengers can once again take advantage of the transit system.

Service was shut down since Oct. 27 as crews worked to fortify track infrastructure and improve safety.

"Our team has worked hard to restore service safely and efficiently and looks forward to providing a seamless travel experience for all," NFTA Public Information Officer Kelly Khatib said in a statement.

Currently, Metro Rail trains are single-tracking, with full service to both tracks expected to begin this coming Sunday, Dec. 1.
