BUFFALO, N.Y. — As the Buffalo community continues to grieve, officials have provided an update on the future of the Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue following the racially-motivated mass shooting that left 10 people dead.

The on-site investigation is now complete and control of the store has been given back to Tops Friendly Markets. Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia announced on Thursday that the stretch of Jefferson Avenue near the store would reopen to traffic, but the parking lot will remain off limits to the public.

The president of Tops says the store itself will reopen, but there is no timetable for when that will happen.

"We want to make sure that we're respectful in what we do and how we do it," said Tops President John Persons. "There will be a new look in the store, and we're not exactly sure how we are going to have the victims memorialized and honored, but we will in some way."

Police say Tops will put some fencing up while crews are working inside. Police officers will continue to maintain a presence in the area.
