Buffalo Sabres captain Kyle Okposo is headed to Florida.

The Sabres announced on Friday that they have acquired defenseman Calle Sjalin and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in exchange for Okposo. It becomes a fifth-round pick in 2024 if Florida wins the Stanley Cup.

In 22 AHL games with the Charlotte Checkers this year, Sjalin, 24, has three assists and 11 points (5+6) in 61 career AHL games. He was teammates with fellow Swede Isak Rosen on Leksands (SHL) in 2021-2022.

Okposo spent eight seasons with the Sabres, playing 516 games. He was team captain for his last two seasons. Okposo was selected for the NHL All-Star Game in 2016-17 and fans voted him the recipient of the Rick Martin Award in 2021-22.

The Sabres also sent veteran defenseman Erik Johnson to the Philadelphia Flyers for a fourth-round pick in 2024. Johnson played 50 games with Buffalo this season, scoring 3 goals.
