The Buffalo Sabres honored the life and career of legendary play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret with a special tribute Sunday night.

Jeanneret passed away earlier this month at the age of 81 after 51 years of making everyone's favorite calls.

Fellow broadcasters and Sabres alumni spoke about their favorite memories with Jeanneret at KeyBank Center. They included current head coach Don Granato, former head coach Lindy Ruff and current general manager Kevyn Adams.

Fans came from all over to honor Jeanneret's legacy. Those in attendance say he will never be forgotten.

"RJ was such a big part of all our lives," said Ruff. "All his great calls. You know I think when you look at RJ, the person first was such an incredible man. He was a gift to be around."

"Jeanneret is not just a Sabres play-by-play announcer, he's a part of Buffalo history," said fan Joseph Saj. "He will always be remembered by the Sabres, but also for his top-notch performance as an announcer. Just a great person, great individual. It's a sad day, but it's a good day, too."

The Sabres say they will continue to honor Jeanneret's legacy throughout the 2023-24 season. Preseason games begin in less than a month.
