The NHL Draft begins Wednesday night and the biggest wild card remains Matvei Michkov, a Russian winger currently under contract in the KHL for three more years.

He did not attend the combine in Buffalo, so there was no opportunity for the media to talk to him, and some NHL teams have had a hard time reaching him as well.

Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams feels confident in both the work the Sabres' overseas scouts have done while also being intrigued by the complex situation.

"And my time is general manager, I can't think of anything even kind of close to this where you have such a unique situation," said Adams. "Yeah, I mean I think all teams are having this conversation right? You know, the risk-reward, where is he going to go? I mean obviously, he's an elite player and we'll see, but no I think from probably both to what you said, from the job I do every day, but also just, you know, an overall fan of the game, this is a really interesting situation."

As of now, the Sabres have eight total draft picks to use this week.
