BUFFALO, N.Y. — Chippewa Avenue became Bills Mafia territory on Sunday as fans came together for the season’s first Buffalo Bills Block Party. Inspired by last season’s Playoffs on the Patios, the parties offer a lively alternative to spending another Sunday cheering on the home team from the living room couch.
Two large LCD screens displayed the game while refreshments and live DJ sets are on hand during breaks to keep the good time going. In addition to providing the ultimate game day experience, the block parties help support businesses downtown. In fact, establishments along the strip are in on the fun, as many of the businesses invite fans to watch the game inside and enjoy game day specials. Mixing innovation with a hint of traditional tailgating fun, partners of the newly formed Chippewa Events Inc. have more in store for the future.
“Next time for the Sunday night game, we’re going to have more cornhole, KanJam stuff, things that you would have at a traditional tailgate,” said Chris Ring, co-owner of Rec Room. “Because we’re opening up a couple of hours earlier than we normally would. Live music, things like that just to kind of build up the energy before the game.”
“I think the city is really electric right now with excitement for the Bills and for the football season, and this kind of street party is just adding to that excitement and that energy level," said general manager of Soho Kelsie Flynn. "We’re hoping that we can continue to do this for years to come and cheer on our team in different ways.”
Tickets for standing room are $10 and tables for parties of up to 10 can be reserved for $250 at ticketweb.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate the days of the Buffalo Bills Block Parties:
