Bills head coach Sean McDermott met with the media Tuesday morning for the final time as part of the 2020 season.

As you can imagine, there were so many topics touched on as McDermott reflected on everything his team did.

Here are some of the highlights.

Gap Between Bills and Chiefs

McDermott echoed what some of his players said on Monday, that there is a gap right now between the Bills and the Chiefs and that was evident Sunday night.

The Bills head coach was quick to point out that Andy Reid's been building up KC for 8 years now, while this is the 4th for the McDermott regime.

He added that players and coaches need to get better as well as the roster itself.

FG Decisions

Maybe the hottest talking point coming out of the AFC Championship game were two decisions by McDermott to kick field goals rather than roll the dice and go fo touchdowns.

The first was on 4th and goal from the 2 with 14 seconds to go in the 1st half and the Bills down 21-9. McDermott reiterated his thoughts from immediately after the game, saying he felt it was important to get points to show for a 12 play drive, citing team morale.

The other McDermott openly admitted he still goes back and forth over. The Bills were trailing 24-12 with 5:52 to go in the 3rd quarter and facing a 4th and 3 from the KC 8. He noted how you have to score points to beat Patrick Mahomes and that Chiefs offense, so maybe he would change his mind if put in that position again.

Emotional Embrace With Diggs

The most lasting image from the Bills loss Sunday night was of Stefon Diggs standing by himself on the field as the Chiefs celebrated and the rest of his team was in the locker room.

McDermott shed light on the moment he came back out onto the field and got Diggs, hugging his wide receiver, who he called visibly emotional and upset.

Diggs himself posted on his Instagram this afternoon a picture of the moment, saying "feeling inspired feeling motivated" as part of the caption below.

2020 Success Still Means Starting Over in 2021

What the Bills accomplished this season has raised the bar of expectations moving forward.

Still, McDermott made it clear multiple times that the success this team achieved cannot be fully leaned on moving forward. Each team is different and must approach each season that way.

The phrase "asking the tough questions" was used often by McDermott, meaning everyone from coaches to players and beyond needs to look in the mirror and find where they can get better.

We also know that the roster and even staff may not look the same next season, with key plays now free agents and coaches already getting interest from other teams for higher positions.

Frazier, Dorsey in Demand

Speaking of changing on the coaching staff, McDermott slightly touched on the possibility of losing some to other jobs.

The Bills head coach noted that the team's success naturally brings attention to his staff.

Leslie Frazier reportedly had his second interview for the Houston Texans head coaching position today while Ken Dorsey is reportedly in the running to become the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator.

McDermott gave praise to the job both Frazier and Dorsey have done and supported their efforts in going for those positions.

Allen Answered Many Questions

McDermott gave his quarterback praise when asked to sum up Josh Allen's third season.

The Bills head coach said there are not many areas Allen hasn't deveoloped to this point in his career and that he answered a lot of questions from outsiders with his play.

As for a potential new contract this offseason, McDermott said he will leave that to General Manager Brandon Beane.

Edmunds Adds Intensity

While the immediate attention needs to be given to Matt Milano and his upcoming free agency, there are also questions by some surrounding Tremaine Edmunds.

Even though he earned his second-straight Pro Bowl honor, there were moments Edmunds struggled this season. Some were due to injury, while others not.

McDermott said he feels like the middle linebacker grew with his leadership and personality, showing more intensity than he had over his first two years in the league.

The Bills do need to make a decision this offseason as to whether or not to pick up Edmunds 5th year option, something I would say is an almost certainty.

General Manager Brandon Beane makes his final remarks on the 2020 season Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
