We have reached the end of the regular season, but the Bills 2020 campaign is just getting started.

While the AFC East has been locked up for weeks, playoff seeding is still in the balance.

Let's see what's on tap as the Dolphins likely need to win to get into the postseason themselves.

Sit'em or Play'em?

The biggest storyline heading into this afternoon's game is who will actually see the field for the Bills?

They are currently the 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. The Bills can only drop to 3rd with a loss and Steelers win. However, Pittsburgh has already announced most of their prominent starters, such as Ben Roethlisbeger and T.J Watt, will not play today against the Browns.

Sean McDermott has made it clear all week that while a plan is in place, unlike Pittsburgh, he will not announce it publically.

Of course the logic behind not playing guys such as Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs is to avoid an injury before the postseason even begins. The flip side is keeping everyone sharp and in their traditional routine, one that has the Bills currently riding a 5-game winning streak.

Last season, with their seeding already locked in, McDermott played Allen and the starters the first two series of the regular season finale before taking them out.

On the Heels of History

Another reason to play guys is because there are a lot of Bills records in the balance entering the final game of the regular season.

While Allen has already broken over a handful of franchise marks, he is still 40 yards away from pushing past Drew Bledsoe's 4,359 passing yards single-season record.

Stefon Diggs currently leads the NFL in both receptions and receiving yards. No Bills player has ever done that.

Tyler Bass is 8 points away from passing Steve Christie's single-season record of 140 set in 1998.

As a team, a win would make the Bills undefeated in the division for the first time ever.

They are 14 points away from breaking the franchise mark of 458 set in 1991.

And of course the Bills currently are tied for the NFL record with 13 different players catching a TD pass this season. We've seen them try to break that over the past few weeks, with guys like Taiwan Jones seeing the ball go his way.

Tua Time

As for the game itself, the biggest storyline surrounding it was put to bed on Friday when Ryan Fitzpatrick tested positive for COVID-19.

That means Tua Tagovailoa will be the Dolphins QB from start to finish, barring injury.

The former Alabama QB has had an interesting rookie season. It began with him as the back-up to Fitzpatrick. Tagovailoa was named the starter at the midway point of the season and has been that guy the last eight games. However, twice Fitz has come on in relief of Tua, including in the 4th quarter last weekend, with Fitz leading a Miami comeback.

Tagovailoa is completing 65.1% of his passes with 10 TDs to just 2 interceptions. Efficient numbers, but that is largely in part because the ball is rarely being pushed down the field. He is averaging 161 yards per game, throwing for over 200 yards in just 3 of his 8 starts.

Defenses can play closer to the line of scrimmage and guard against the run without the true threat of Tua beating them over the top.

It is true that he hasn't been helped with wide receiver injuries. DeVante Parker (hamstring) and Jakeem Grant (ankle) are listed as questionable for today's game.

Still, Tagovailoa has not been the threat even with them in the line-up that should make the Bills defense concerned.

Team Takeaway

The Dolphins defense is the biggest reason they are on the doorstep of a playoff berth.

Xavien Howard is making a strong case to be the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year. He leads the league with 9 INTs as well as 19 passes defensed.

Overall, Miami leads the league in turnovers with 27. They have 16 INTs and 11 fumbles recovered. Their overall +11 turnover ratio is tops in the NFL.

They also produce pressure well, tied for 9th in the NFL with 40 sacks. Emmanuel Ogbah leads the way with 9.

Of course the Bills offense rolled in the first meeting earlier this season, with Allen setting career-highs with 415 passing yards and 4 TDs on 68.6% completion, adding up to a career-best 146.7 QB rating.
