UB is ranked 24 on the Associated Press' college football top 25 poll for the first time in program history, AP announced Sunday.

The Bulls were able to break into the top 25 without playing this week after the UB-Ohio game was canceled due to positive COVID-19 cases.

AP’s Ralph D. Russo said the following regarding UB’s place in the Top 25:

“The Bulls have been an FBS school playing in the MAC since 1999 and had only two non-losing seasons before Lance Leipold took over as coach in 2015. Leipold, who built a Division III powerhouse at Wisconsin-Whitewater, is in the midst of his fourth straight season of .500 or better at Buffalo.”

Buffalo is the first Mid-American Conference team ranked on the list this season, according to AP. The team is currently 4-0 on the season, and remains the only undefeated team in the MAC.

"The Bulls lead the nation in scoring offense, averaging 50.8 points per game," the university said in a statement. "Running back Jaret Patterson leads the country in rushing, averaging 230 yards per game. The Bulls will conclude the regular season when they host Akron on Saturday at UB Stadium."

The Top 25 poll began in 1939 and is the longest-running poll that awards national titles at the end of the season, according to AP.

A panel of 52 sports writers and broadcasters from around the United States vote weekly for the poll.
