J.K. Dobbins has had nearly everything go right for him on the football field.
Off of it is a different story.
"Definitely come from a humble beginning. My father not being here, losing him at 15, it was defintely tough for me," Dobbins said at the NFL Combine in late-February. "I had to mature earlier than people usually have to. So I had to mature a very early age and it definitely helped me a lot and I'm grateful for everything that's happened to me."
Dobbins starting as a true freshman at Ohio State, setting a Buckeyes freshman record with 1,403 rushing yards.
His numbers were down as a sophomore, but still a 2nd team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches with 1,053 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Dobbins more than bouncing back this past season, becoming the first OSU player to ever eclipse 2,000 rushing yards in a single-season (2,003). That number along with 21 touchdowns both ranking third-most in the nation.
His best games came against the best competition, averaging 174.6 yards on 6.6 yards per carry in six games against run defenses ranked in the top 13. Five of those six were ranked top ten in the country.
All of that earning Dobbins Big Ten Running Back of the Year, 1st Team All-Big Ten, 2nd team All-American, and a sixth place finish in the Heisman voting.
His hopes of adding National Champion to that were dashed in the College Football Playoff semifinals, a game he left with an ankle injury.
"There's definitely a lot I can show a team," Dobbins said. "Adversity or when things don't go my way I'm not going to sit here and pout about it. I'm going to keep working hard and if a team drafts me they're going to get a hard worker that's just trying to help his team win."
Dobbins leaves Columbus second all-time in rushing with 4,459 yards.
Physically, he is stacked at 5'9" and a playing weight between 210-215 pounds. He uses that size to fend off contact and great vision to avoid it all together. While he is not considered a speedster, Dobbins showed breakaway speed with seven runs of 40+ yards this season.
He is in the conversation to be the first running back selected in the draft, likely in the late-1st to early-2nd round.
