The Sabres shook up their forward group on Monday with a pair of moves before the NHL trade deadline.

First, Buffalo traded a conditional fifth-round pick in 2021 to the New Jersey Devils for forward Wayne Simmonds. The Devils are eating 50 percent of his roughly $5 million cap hit. The forward is an unrestricted free agent after this year and has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 61 games this season.

After trading for Simmonds, the Sabres shipped off forwards Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for center Domink Kahun.

Kahun, 24, has 64 points in 132 career games with Pittsburgh and the Chicago Blackhawks. He's a restricted free agent after this season — Rodrigues and Sheary were both unrestricted free agents.
