UB men's basketball has a new head coach and they're staying in house as they hire associate head coach Jim Whitesell to replace Nate Oats.

Whitesell has been on the Bulls bench for the last four seasons, which included their most successful in program history last year with 32 wins.

He was also part of three of their MAC championships and a pair of NCAA tournament wins.

Before coming to Buffalo Whitesell was an assistant at St. John's and St. Louis.

His last stint as a head coach was with Loyola University Chicago from 2004-2011 where he went 109-106.

Whitesell and his UB staff has to do some scrambling to replace a roster that graduated five key seniors and has recently seen its entire 2019 recruiting class decommitt.

He will be officially introduced as the 14th coach in program history Monday morning.
