Investigators say the fire that destroyed The Old Pink bar in June was sparked on purpose and they have a person of interest in the case, according to Buffalo Police.
"The video that helped us identify the person of interest actually came from The Pink itself, internal video that they had. We were able to analyze that, look at that and that’s how we determined who this person was,” said Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo, discussing what is now an arson investigation. “Arson is a really hard crime to prove and it’s even more difficult to prosecute, so we are going to leave it as is right now.”
Renaldo says there is no one in custody yet, and the investigation is still underway with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The beloved dive bar went up in flames early on June 17 after a fire started outside the building.
Authorities say the property suffered an estimated $1.25 million worth of damage.
The city ordered an emergency demolition of the building soon after.
