All schools in Chautauqua County have new Stop the Bleed kits. It's a way to prepare all schools in case of emergency situations.

The kits, filled with gauze, medical seals and tourniquets, come from the county's Department of Emergency Services.

"Unfortunately, nowadays we live in a world that is a little unpredictable," said Joshua Schauman, EMS education coordinator with Chautauqua County. "The best thing that we can do is prepare for all those eventualities, whatever they may be."

The effort to distribute the kits is in response to the 2022 shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Maple Grove High School in Ellery was the first school to receive the kits in the county.
