A ban on empty tractor trailers on the New York State Thruway remained in effect until early Sunday morning.

The Thruway Authority banned empty tractor trailers and other high-profile vehicles from I-90 beginning at noon on Saturday because of high winds. The ban will be lifted at 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The following stretches of I-90 are impacted:

  • I-90 between exit 42 (Geneva) and exit 61 (Ripley to PA line)
  • Niagara Thruway (I-190)

Wind gust speeds exceeded 70 miles per hour in some locations between Buffalo and Rochester.

The winds brought down trees and power lines which created hazardous travel conditions in many places.
