NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The North Tonawanda Police Department has released the identity of a motorcyclist who died following a crash last week.
Authorities received a call on Friday around 11:30 p.m. about a motorcyclist down in the roadway near Gratwick Park. They say the rider, Jason Sabin, 23, of Tonawanda, was not wearing a helmet and had been riding a minibike that did not meet safety standards for operation on public roads.
While emergency crews were on their way to the scene, they say Sabin was struck by a vehicle traveling along River Road. Police say Sabin died from his injuries at the scene. The Erie County Medical Examiner determined Sabin suffered fatal injuries prior to being struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Sabin is cooperating with the investigation, but police are looking for any information about the initial incident that left him lying on the roadway.
Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is urged to contact North Tonawanda police at 716-692-4312.
