The village of Fredonia has declared an extension of a local state of emergency due to the unstableness of potable water.

The extension of the declaration is by the recommendation of the Chautauqua County Department of Health, according to a statement from the village.

Ongoing water woes in Fredonia have been going on for weeks. In early September, the village was under a state of emergency due to the water crisis within its system.

On Sept. 30, boil water advisory was lifted, which was in place for three weeks.

“In coordination with other government agencies, this proactive action is taken to protect the general public and to provide safe drinking water to the community,” the village mayor said in the declaration.

The village fire chief confirmed to Spectrum News residents do not need to boil their water.
