A 21-year-old man has died while fly fishing with his grandfather in Lyndonville.

Orleans County sheriff's deputies tell Spectrum News they were called at around 1:30 p.m. Friday for the report of a drowning in Johnson Creek.

They found the body of Jared Fearby, 21, of Kent, half submerged in the water.

Deputies say the two had been fishing since about 10 a.m., and had gotten separated.

When the grandfather could not find Fearby, he called 911.

Investigators say he may have drowned due to his waders filling with water, or could have gotten stuck in the mud after falling.

He was taken to the Monroe County medical examiner to determine his exact cause of death.
