Former Grand Island town supervisor Nate McMurray announced Monday he no longer plans to run for Erie County executive.

McMurray first announced his candidacy back on Feb. 1.

In a long statement posted on his social media accounts, McMurray says he is choosing to drop out of his campaign to "fight other fights."

McMurray's departure from the Erie County executive race means that right now, incumbent Mark Poloncarz is alone on the Democratic side of the ticket.

Meanwhile, the Erie County GOP on Monday endorsed a new candidate for the upcoming county executive race — Chrissy Casilio announced she will run in the race later this year.
