A group of Republican lawmakers from the State Senate and Assembly were joined Tuesday by Congressman Tom Reed (NY-23), renewing their calls for an investigation into nursing home deaths.
Last month, the state attorney general released a scathing report saying the state health department released numbers on COVID-19 deaths from nursing homes that were lower than they should have been by as much as 50%, as mainly residents who were transferred to hospitals and died there.
The group is calling on the Biden administration and Department of Justice to provide the public with answers through a full, independent, and fair federal investigation.
"The sooner we get this investigation started, the sooner we can get justice and the sooner we can get information to make sure this never happens again,” Reed said.
State Assemblyman Will Barclay also says they are trying to force their colleagues on the other side of the aisle to hold hearings.
