The U.S. attorney is recommending a stiff penalty for former congressman Chris Collins.
The ex-representative for New York's 27th district previously pleaded guilty to insider trading and lying to the FBI.
Now, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York recommends a sentence at the top end of the guidelines range, that's between 46 and 57 months in prison.
In his suggestion, U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman says, "Collins came to embody the cynical idea that those in power who make the laws are not required to follow them."
Sentencing is set for later this week.
