The Buffalo Board of Education did not select a firm to conduct a third-party investigation Wednesday night into allegations made by a Buffalo Police detective.

The board said it will "expand the search for an independent investigator" and hopes to have a firm selected for the investigation by the board's next meeting.

"The Board will seek responses from prospective firms within seven business days of the posting, with the goal to vote on the selection of a firm at the next Board meeting," an adopted resolution read.

The allegations were made on a podcast by Buffalo Police Detective Richard Hy. He accused BPS and BPD officials of covering up and obstructing investigations of sexual assaults, abductions and other crimes that allegedly happened on school property.

In a resolution to expand their search, the school board said more allegations have come to light, but no further details were given.

BPS recently issued a statement acknowledging the accusations made in the podcast. In part, it said, "The district is prepared to vigorously address these untruths." It also said that the district has prioritized the safety and security of its students and staff.

Community organization Bury the Violence recently organized a petition calling for security and safety reforms following an attempted abduction at School 59 in February.
