The Buffalo Common Council has approved higher fines for parking violations in the city.
Violations such as failure to deposit required coins in a parking meter or parking prohibited on alternate days will see fines increase from $40 to $50.
Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, parking in an unpaved area in a front/side yard and parking prohibited upon publicly or privately owned premises with permission now is raised to $75, up from $65.
A fine for a handicapped parking violation increased by $45, from $80 to $125.
Late fees have also increased, with $50, $75 and $125 fines raising to $95, $130 and $200, respectively, after 30 days without payment.
The increases are set to take effect on July 1.
