The Baltimore Ravens put up historic numbers this season, led by the dynamic duo of quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.
They became the first team to put up 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in the same season.
The Bills experienced that firsthand when the Ravens whooped them back in September, with Henry rushing for a season-high 199 yards and Jackson accounting for three touchdowns.
Buffalo will have to do better this time out to match the physicality and skill.
“Coach said something that really stuck with me. He’s like Kobe Bryant in how you can’t necessarily stop Kobe Bryant,” said defensive tackle Ed Oliver. “Kobe Byrant’s going to get his at some point and that was a great analogy. Lamar is going to get his at some point and we know that and everybody watching him knows that. We just have to limit him.”
“I think it’s just a mindset at the end of the day,” said defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. “You just have the right mindset to go into any game to be physical and go out there and dominate. You have to have kind of a nasty mindset. That’s what we’ve talked about all week with the guys and got to keep sharpening our minds.”
The Bills have said all week they’re a different team now, and in some ways, that’s literally true. On defense, three stars, linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard and cornerback Taron Johnson, did not play in Week 4 because of injuries. All three are back and ready to go as they get ready to tackle one of their biggest challenges yet.
“It was a tough loss,” said Johnson. “Honestly, I think it helped our team grow. A loss early in the season helped us grow as a team, even the guys that were in, I feel like it helped them grow, and as a spectator it helped me grow, so just seeing what we didn’t do well and trying to correct those things.”
“I think we got scarred there in the middle of the season a little bit,” said Bernard. “Had some areas that we needed to improve on. I feel like we’ve done a good job of getting that fixed and getting it addressed. Still opportunity for growth there.”
The Bills and Ravens face off at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park Sunday at 6:30 p.m., with a trip to the AFC championship game on the line.
