The Buffalo Central Terminal is getting $33 million in construction funding from the Regional Revitalization Partnership, which allow for the historic main terminal building to be stabilized.
It will also reestablish safe access into the passenger concourse and expand use of the Plaza and the lawn. Work will also address various leaking and structural roof areas, as well as fix some masonry work.
“Gov. [Kathy] Hochul’s investment in the iconic Central Terminal is helping to harness the potential of this vibrant East Buffalo neighborhood and its residents,” said Hope Knight, president, CEO and commissioner of Empire State Development. “We are revitalizing the historic landmark one phase at a time carving out a future for the one-of-a-kind architectural anchor. When the project is complete it will be a celebratory story of success, economic growth and new beginnings — but most importantly, it will always be about the vital importance of this proud Buffalo community.”
“This is a generational investment,” said James Morrell, chair of the Central Terminal Restoration Corp. “Reviving our living landmark proves that we can triumph over adversity. The future of the Central Terminal is in motion, and together we are building a new future as a lasting cultural and economic hub for the community.”
Construction is expected to take about 2 years.
