The Buffalo Bills made headlines this week with a trade for wide receiver Amari Cooper.

After arriving in Orchard Park, Cooper is now trying to get up to speed to help out quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills’ passing game.

Cooper called it like going to the first day of school as he drove from Cleveland to Buffalo after the trade.

He’s put up big numbers throughout his 10-year NFL career and could quickly become a major factor in the Bills offense.

Cooper feels reinvigorated by the change of scenery and the opportunity to play with Josh Allen.

“As far as the way he plays, it’s phenomenal every time I turn on the television and watch him play," said Cooper. "He plays with a lot of grit [and] a lot of hustle. He plays hard. Obviously, he’s been one of the top quarterbacks in the game for a while now, so just to be able play with him and experience that in person, I think is going to be real cool.”

“I’ve been a big fan of his for a very long time,” said Allen. “[He’s] very smart, very detailed in the way that he runs his routes and I think he can help us a lot.”

It’s not the first time Cooper’s been traded in the middle of the season, going from Oakland to Dallas a few years back.

Now, he’ll lean on that experience while the Bills say they’ll wait to figure out if he can be ready to play this Sunday.

“I think I’m a pretty cerebral guy, at least cerebral enough to learn the playbook as fast as I can, so I can go out there and get lined up and just run routes,” said Cooper.

“It’s going to take him some time,” said general manager Brandon Beane. “You don’t just walk in and just plop him in and say, ‘go.’ He’s got to get up to speed on our calls, our checks [and] alignments for each play.”

The Bills wide receiver corp has struggled to some degree this season. While Beane said he still likes the receivers they had before the trade, this was an opportunity to add a proven, experienced skillset to the group in Amari Cooper.
