UPDATE 9/16/2024:

Buffalo Police say Rashaan Mallory, 29, of Buffalo, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with second-degree attempted murder, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and multiple additional charges.

Police say Mallory first forced the man and a woman into his vehicle before driving to the youth football game. They say he took the woman's phone so she could not call for help. Once they arrived at the football game, police say Mallory robbed two additional victims, taking a female victim’s phone and attempting to steal a male victim’s chains. Mallory then allegedly fired several shots at the second male victim, striking him twice.

According to police, Mallory then got back into the car with the first female victim still inside and tried to flee, but was stopped at Sycamore Street and Koons Avenue. Mallory then attempted to flee in reverse, police say, but crashed and was taken into custody without further incident.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A suspect is in custody following a shooting at a youth football game in Buffalo on Sunday, a city spokesperson said.

Officials say a 31-year-old Rochester man was shot on Koons Avenue and Sycamore Street at around 11:30 a.m. Officials say the victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The city says police also recovered a gun. There is no word yet on any specific charges the suspect may face.

The shooting comes just over five years after a little league football coach was shot and killed at the same intersection. The area was renamed Norzell D. Aldridge Way in honor of the coach and founder of the Beast Elite Ducks football team in 2020.
