One person is dead after being shot by police in Orchard Park.
Orchard Park Police Chief Patrick Fitzgerald says it happened around 8:50 Friday night on Hawthorne Drive and Poplar Avenue.
According to Fitzgerald, when police arrived on scene, they found a man armed with a knife. Officers say they gave him commands, but he did not listen and advanced toward them. At that point, officers opened fire, striking the suspect.
Another officer and a bystander then joined the two officers to administer first aid, but the suspect died.
Both officers involved are now on administrative leave.
