Erie County Sheriff John Garcia is asking non-residents of East Eden to avoid the area as crews continue to clean up from Wednesday's storm.

The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-0 tornado caused damage to structures and trees in the area of Jennings Rd., Gary Dr. and Sauer Rd. Additional damage was found on other roads, including Sisson Highway in Eden and Langford Rd. in North Collins.

As of Thursday afternoon, all county roads in the affected areas back open to traffic, though Rt. 75 (Sisson Highway) remains closed from E. Church Street to New Oregon Road.

Residents should stay out of damaged structures, while drivers should avoid downed trees, power lines and any standing water that may still be on the roads.

“I would like to thank the first responders, public works employees and utility crews that have been working diligently since the storm hit yesterday afternoon,” Garcia said in a statement. “The damage caused by this tornado is heartbreaking, but I have no doubt the people living in the affected neighborhoods will show their resiliency as they clean up and rebuild.”

Any residents in need of police services can call Erie County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers at (716) 858-2903. In an emergency, please dial 911.
