Summer convention and conference bookings at the Buffalo Convention Center are bringing a lot of tourists to Western New York.

Erie County officials say on Wednesday, the American Cheese Society Annual Conference will draw 1,300 out of towners to Buffalo. Then, a week later, another 1,000 tourists are expected to take over the Buffalo Convention Center for the North American Science Fiction Convention.

In August, the 2024 Oddities and Curiosities Expo kicks off. The event is slated to see 10,000 people.

In all, the expected economic impact of all conventions booked this year tops $7 million.

There are 22 conventions booked at the Buffalo Convention Center in 2025 and 2026. Those are set to bring in an additional $30 million, a major boost to the Queen City's economy.

"That's $30 million just in the next year and a half alone,” said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. “That's additional money that we would not have received. Those are people that are coming in here and are staying at hotels [and] going to restaurants. So they're paying sales tax. They're paying hotel taxes. They're investing in our local community by shopping at local stores."
