The University at Buffalo's Jacobs School of Medicine ushered in 199 medical residents during a white coat ceremony Friday morning.

The residents will now train in a medical or surgical specialty that they were matched with for the next three to seven years.

"It's a chance for us to discuss humanism in medicine,” said Dr. Gregory Cherr, senior associate dean for graduate medical education, Jacobs School of Medicine. “Practicing patient and family centered care but also supporting each other through this long and difficult journey."

The residents, now in rotations, will be practicing at various doctors' offices and hospitals in Erie, Niagara and Cattaraugus counties.
