Albert the alligator, who was seized from a home in Hamburg this past March, is starting a new chapter in Texas.
The New York DEC says Albert now lives in an authorized rehabilitation center called Gator Country, a sanctuary and adventure park.
Officials say that particular site was chosen for its ability to provide specialized care for Albert's medical needs. He is suffering from blindness and spinal issues caused by what the DEC calls "years of inadequate treatment."
Albert lived in Hamburg for about three decades before the owner's license expired in 2021. The DEC says the owner built an addition and an in-ground pool for the alligator without a permit, even allowing people to get in the water with the animal.
