The NHL Draft lottery was held Tuesday night with the ping pong balls going in order. No surprises came in the draft lottery as the bottom 16 teams in the league found out where they will be selecting in the NHL Entry Draft at the end of June.
It came down to the San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks, the two teams with the worst records. In the end, it was the Sharks getting the first overall pick with the Blackhawks landing at the No. 2 selection. San Jose finished last and had a 18.5% chance of winning. Anaheim, Columbus and Montreal round out the top five in the draft.
The Sabres are set to pick at number 11.
The prize for winning the lottery is likely Maklin Celebrini. The Boston University star is expected to be the first overall pick when the draft takes place June 28 in Las Vegas. Celebrini won the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's top player last season. The freshman said he'll make a decision to return to BU or turn pro after the draft.
All the NHL hopefuls will be in Buffalo June 2-8 for the league's scouting combine.
