Erie County is working to cover a $3.4 million bill for private snow removal contractors.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz submitted a resolution to the legislature asking to reappropriate that funding to the Department of Public Works.

The DPW says it incurred that bill following back-to-back winter storms in January. Amid a local state of emergency, the DPW says it contracted Union Concrete Company to help clear and reopen roads across the county.

The legislature is expected to review the resolution Thursday.
