While the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra fell short at the 2024 Grammy Awards, BPO officials say they are honored to have been nominated. The nomination was for their recording of the works by Alexander Scriabin.
Despite losing out to Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, BPO Music Director JoAnna Falletta says they value this nomination immensely, considering it a reflection of their status among the world's premier orchestras. Fellow nominees included Karina Canellakis and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra; Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony.
"It was a great honor for us to be nominated for the highest award in recorded classical music – the Best Orchestral Performance Award – and to be in the illustrious company of the orchestras of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the Netherlands Radio," Falletta said. "We send our warmest congratulations to Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our BPO musicians for their spectacular recording of Scriabin, and to our listeners for their remarkable support."
Falletta and the orchestra also thanked engineer and producer Bernd Gottinger.
