A Buffalo Public Schools spokesperson has confirmed to Spectrum News 1 that all schools in the district will be closed on April 8, 2024 when Western New York will experience a total solar eclipse.

They say details will be shared with families and faculty sometime after the Thanksgiving break.

The total eclipse will hit around 3:18 p.m. Specialized glasses will also be a must to safely view the sky as the moon's path begins to cross over the sun.

The last time a total eclipse occurred in Buffalo was 1925, and after next year, it won't happen again until 2144.
