The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) has announced it will activate fare gates on the Metro Rail, making way for MetGo, their new contactless payment system, on Nov. 1.
Once fare gates are activated, valid payment will be required to enter and exit those stations. Riders will still be able to buy tickets at stations. Additionally, up to three children, ages 9 and under, will be free with a paying adult.
Day passes will no longer be sold for the bus system, but MetGo users will not have to pay more than $5 per day by using stored value.
Reduced fare passengers must also have an official NFTA-Metro-issued reduced fare card, which can be picked up at the Customer Service Center at 181 Ellicott St.
Riders can expect to see educational materials, station staff available to answer questions, and signs to help them navigate these changes, according to the NFTA.
