Fort Montgomery resident Arline Wargo’s home was devastated in last week’s flooding.

“The front door frame, the front, the window frame, the siding, all that, I think, is all damaged," she said. "So basically, the front of my house needs to be replaced. All my flooring needs to be replaced, all my furniture needs to be replaced.”

So while she’s still hoping FEMA will provide assistance, she’s glad the state will provide homeowners dealing with flood damage here up to $50,000 for repairs.

What You Need To Know

  • Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $3 million in state funds to assist homeowners dealing with flood damage in Orange County

  • The funds will be distributed through RDAC, a subsidiary of affordable housing provider RUPCO

  • RDAC Executive Director Faith Moore says folks can apply for up to $50,000 in state-assistance at RUPCO.org

Faith Moore, the executive director of RDAC, a subsidiary of affordable housing-provider RUPCO, will oversee how a total of $3 million in state funds are distributed. She said that in order to apply, people whose homes were flooded in Orange County need to go to the website RUPCO.org to fill out information.

“Basic information, name, address, email, phone number," Moore said. "We do ask a couple of questions. Number of people in the household, your gross annual income. Do you have estimates already for the work that needs to be done? Did you have insurance? And then that information comes directly to us.”

The funds can be used in a variety of ways, just as long as they aren’t replacing more personal belongings like furniture or vehicles.

“Any kind of house-structural type of repair," she said. "Appliances, hot water heaters, boilers, even fuel tanks.”

Arline has already applied and hopes to receive state funds. But she still wants to see more assistance made available to her family and her community.

“Every house on my street except for three are condemned," she said. "There's at least 50 houses on my street.”
