The Buffalo Sabres announced on Tuesday they have re-signed forward Zemgus Girgensons to a one-year, $2.5 million deal and forward Lukas Rousek to a two-year deal worth $775,000 per season.
Girgensons, 29, was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after netting 10 goals and adding 8 assists this past season. He has spent his entire nine-year career with the Sabres after being selected by the team in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft and remains the longest-tenured Sabre with this newest contract.
The Latvia native has anchored the Sabres’ fourth line in recent years and is part of the team’s leadership group, being named an alternate captain by head coach Don Granato in 2021.
Rousek, 24, made his major-league debut this past season, scoring his first NHL goal on his first shift against the Montreal Canadiens. The 2019 sixth-round pick also contributed to the Rochester Americans' deep playoff run, scoring 12 points in 14 games.
